Filter tips?

As a smoker, you’re probably quite familiar with your old friend the filter tip. These tiny bundles of fibre are used every day by smokers, but have you ever stopped to think about what they are, where they came from, and why we still use them? Of course you have! That’s why you’re here, after all.

Filter tips may seem like a small piece of the overall smoking puzzle, but they do fill an important purpose. Here, we’ll dive into the world of filter tips and explain all the ins and outs.

What are Filter Tips and What do They do?

Filter tips are fibrous pieces of material that are placed at the end of a cigarette. They are used for multiple reasons, which fall into a few categories:

  • Stiffness: Adding a filter tip to your cigarette provides a small amount of reinforcement to the cylindrical shape.
  • Filtration: Filter tips, as their name suggests, act as a filtration system to help prevent some substances from making their way into your body. This results in a more enjoyable smoke, each time.
  • Airflow: By keeping the end of the cigarette open, the filter tip ensures stable airflow and prevents the cigarette from closing up.

What Are Cigarette Filters Made Of?

We’ve mentioned that filter tips are made of a fibrous material, but that’s only half of the story. These days, almost all filter tips are made of something called cellulose acetate, which is a non-toxic, biodegradable material that looks a bit like cotton.

You can find other filter tips made from natural materials like hemp. Rizla’s Natura filter tips are unbleached and biodegradable.

Filter Tip Sizes

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to rolling. Some like a skinny cigarette, others prefer theirs a bit rounder.

Filter tips come in an array of different sizes and circumferences, from slim ones at 6mm to as big as 8mm. While a 2mm difference doesn’t sound like much, in this shape, the difference is quite noticeable. Rizla features filter tips in Slim, Extra Slim & King Size in a choice of plain, Menthol or Crushball in packs from 60 to 150.

More Tips From Rizla

If you’ve never used a filter tip before, allow us to explain. Gather your supplies, including tobacco, rolling paper, and filter tip. First, start by forming your tobacco into a cigarette-like shape on top of your rolling paper.

Then, insert your filter tip at one end of the cigarette, making sure that there’s no tobacco sticking out in front of the filter tip, roll and then lick the paper to make the Rizla stick.

Rizla has you covered from rolling papers to cigarette filters. Look out for new Berry
