You've probably seen the words ‘paper with natural Arabic gum’ on your Rizla papers pack and wondered what the heck is Arabic gum and how can I get it to stick better?
We know it works so the gum we use has been unchanged for a very long time. Here, we’ll tell you exactly what it is, what can happen to affect it, and how to make it stick.
WHAT IS ARABIC GUM?
Producing the gum is a real labour of love as it’s harvested and cleaned by hand. It is then stored to dry out before being sent for processing to remove any impurities to make it into the product we see on our papers.
The Arabic gum refers to the adhesive strip on your Rizla papers. It’s not actually a glue but a natural edible substance that comes from the sap of the Acacia tree in Sudan. It is commonly added to sweets like marshmallows.

The gum is water-soluble so if your Rizla paper won’t stick...
it may be because it’s too moist.
Follow our simple Dos and Don’ts for how to get the most out of your Rizla papers.
DO...
1. Store your Rizla papers...
in a cool, dry place like a sealed tin.
2. Avoid sunlight and heat...
which can cause Rizla papers to dry out.
3. Moisten the paper lightly...
with the tip of your tongue only - too much saliva will result in the paper not sticking.
4. Use a clean, dry surface to roll...
or try our Rizla rolling machine.
5. Always buy...
from a reputable retailer.
DON'T...
1. Store the Rizla papers...
inside the pouch with your tobacco because this will make them damp.
2. Forget that what you eat/drink...
transfers from your saliva to the papers which can impact the stick.
3. Acidic foods and drinks...
can break down the gum whereas the sugar in sweets can help it to stick.
